Sunlight filtered through the library window, reflecting off the hardwood table Miles was seated at. Miniscule particles of dust were illuminated as he opened the cover of the book, scanning the table of contents.

As he continued flipping through the pages of the book, he noted the anatomical pictures of the dog, the old war photographs.  He shut the book, examining the navy cover again. With this, he stood up, pushed his chair in and walked though the aisle to the main walkway. He made his way around the occasional person and was soon back at Ms. Audum's desk.
"That was quick." She remarked, adjusting her sunflower pin with her right hand. "Is it what you need, Miles?"
"Seems as much." He muttered, looking over the book cover again.
"Well," Ms. Audum began tapping away at her computer, "it is a rather... informative book." She really couldn't think of any other way to describe it. When Miles set the book down on her desk, she asked him as uncaringly as possible, "So who's dog is this?"
"A..." He crossed his arms, looking down at the carpet. What exactly was Phoenix to him? A childhood friend? A friend? An enemy? A minor defense attorney? His forehead was crinkled in thought. "He's a defense attorney."
Ms. Audum scanned his book before asking,"What's his name?"
"Phoenix Wright." He growled though clenched teeth. Ms. Audum was becoming increasingly nosey... at least to Miles.
"Oh, him!" The old librarian could sense the growing irritation that was radiating from the prosecutor. "Your other book is due in two weeks, Miles." She said, changing the subject. "The labrador book is due in four." Ms. Audum held out the book with the receipt taped on it.
"Ms. LeBlaunks's book will be returned in no more than four days, I promise that." It was all Miles could do to keep from rudely snatching the book out of her bony hands.
As he turned on his heel, hastily walking to the door, Ms. Audum called quietly, "Have a good day, Miles."
This scene would not die! At first, I had him look through the book, but I couldn't write that without repeating 'page' every 2 words. Ugh.
Anyway, this is short. The next chapter will either be up today (Aug. 21) or tomorrow night (August 22). Sorry for the short chapter.
Poor Ms. Audum... she was just asking. But still, I guess Miles doesn't exactly favor the favor. No pun intended.
So blah, the scene has been slain. :dummy: I'm still not happy with this chapter except for the end...
